Abstract
534,166. Closures for containers. CARTNER, J., and MORGAN, G. W. L. Jan. 3, 1940, No. 205. [Class 125 (iii)] The body of a container 1 having a removable flanged closure, or a removable closure, or a removable closure 2 held by a jointed locking ring 5, is made of cardboard or like yielding material; the flange and the body are pressed inwardly together so that the depressed part 9 of the flange grips the depressed part 8 of the container body. Where a locking ring is employed the ends may be joined by a tongue 6, Fig. 1, or by tongues 15, 16, Fig. 5, and slots 13, 14 so that one tongue is disposed on the top of the ring and the other on the flange. The ring may be formed with a flared portion 17, Fig. 7, having an edge 18 bent sharply inwards so that when pressure is applied it is embedded in the material of the body. Packing rings of rubber, cardboard or other compressible material are arranged between the disc closure 2 and the locking ring the edge of which is turned down to form a housing for the packing. The inside fitting lid 4 shown in Fig. 3, is secured by a ring 5 with its flange depressed with the part 8 of the body.
