[Class 130] In a cigarette-making or tobacco-packaging machine in which tobacco from a carded feed surface or roller 1 is showered by a picker roller 3 on to a carded roller 4 and by a picker roller 9 into a shoot 10 towards a feed band or paper web 11, a restraining wall 6 and the walls of the shoot 10 comprise a tightly stretched fabric permeated by a bonding medium consisting of a cellulose derivative. Vibration of the fabric, due for example to the vibration of the machine, causes tobacco shreds, particles or dust to be repelled by the fabric and the natural period of vibration of the fabric may synchronize with that of the machine. Two or more layers of fabric may be employed and treated as described in Specification 469,932, [Group VIII and stretched on frames 13. The bonding medium may comprise a cellulose derivative (e.g. cellulose acetate) and another ester having an antiembrittling character (e.g., dibutyl phthalate, diamyl phthalate or triphenyl phosphate), or a cellulose derivative and a hydrocarbon derivative acting as a softening agent (eg., castor oil, other vegetable oils, glycerine, lubricating oil).
