Abstract
533,078. Desks ; stands. DAVIES, R. G., and AGAR, F. L. July 5, 1939, Nos. 19600, 25915 and 28645. [Classes 52 (i) and 52 (iii)] [Also in Groups XV and XXV ] A writing, drawing or painting board has a transparent working-surface hinged to one or both faces of the board, and is provided with a main drawer 3, Fig. 2, side drawers 4, 5 and a rear drawer 6. The drawers are locked by sliding bars 13, 14 provided with keyhole slots engaged by headed projections 16 on the drawers. The surface may be illuminated by an electric bulb through contacts 34 and battery 35 in drawer 6, and the bulb may be pivotally mounted and swung within the board to provide a flush finish. Several ways are described for supporting the board. Hinged hooks 36, normally housed in recesses 37, may engage a desk rail with the board supported on one's knees. Headed studs 38 engage an adjustable sling passing round one's neck, with means at the front of the board to engage a waist belt. The board may carry a pair of telescopic legs 39 having a bayonet-joint engagement with sockets 40 or hinged to the board, while hinged rests at the front of the board may engage the arms and seat of a chair. Four legs may be provided and the board, covered on its underside with felt &c. used as a table. The board may be supported by a wire frame foldable against the board or stowed in a drawer. The board may be supported on curved metal strips sprung into brackets carried by the board or on wheels, rollers or gliders. The board 2, Fig. 9, may be supported by a horizontal arm 55 on a vertical arm 56 adjustably secured in a stand 57, a spring 61 pressing together satchets carried by a bracket 60 on the board and a collar 59 on arm 55. The board may be mounted in a desk 62, Fig. 11, by a hinge 63 and held inclined by a hinged leg 64 entering recesses 65. Side pivots sliding in guideways may be used instead of the hinge 63. The board may replace the usual hinged lid of a bureau.
