Abstract
612,989. Seats. HILL, L. G. June 13, 1946. No. 17698. [Class 52 (ii)] A portable folding chair comprises two armrests of box formation to accommodate a back rest and a seat when not in use, connecting means whereby the armrests may be closed one against the other and means for assembling the back rest and the seat with the armrests when the latter are extended. As shown two armrests 5, 6 of box formalion are adapted to house the seat 13, and back rest 14 when not in use and are connected together by a pair of flaps 7, hinged together which serve to support the seat 13, the flaps 7 being supported by pairs of flaps 10, 11. The flaps 7, slope rearwardly and the front flaps 10 also slope rearwardly at their top. The seat 13 is built on a wood or metal base 16 and is provided with a fillet 21 behind which the edge of the base 17 of the back rest engages. The back rest is supported additionally by a rod 18 provided with heads 19 which engage slots 20 in the armrests. When closed together the armrests are held by spring-loaded rotatable catches 22 on one armrest and having hook portions to engage the upper portions of the opposite armrest while the lower ends of the catches enter apertures 27 in lugs carried the opposite armrest. The armrests when the chair is in use may house an electric lamp or serve as receptacles for other articles. Telescopic supports may be built into the armrests which, when extended, may support a canopy.
