Abstract

532,832. Jar &c. washing-machines. WEBSTER, R. W. Sept. 21, 1939, No. 26297. [Class 138 (i)] In a machine for washing cylindrical containers in which the containers are carried through the machine by an endless conveyer, holding devices are provided comprising conical members engaging the mouths of the containers pressure members engaging their opposite ends. The holders comprise pairs of uprights t mounted on either side of a splash plate r between bars q and channels u secured to castings v supported on the carrier chains. The means for engaging the mouths of the containers comprise triangular plates 5 arranged in radial planes and having upper edges which slope outwards, as shown, or inwards. The pressure members w slide on the uprights t and have conical parts engaging the containers. The plates 5 are spaced so as to leave a central aperture for a cleaning jet, and the tubes for supplying drying air are telescopic, the sliding part being counterweighted.
