Abstract

513,260. Filling and applying closures to bottles &c. TAYLOR, H. C., and U.D. ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. March 4, 1938, No. 6865. [Class 125 (ii)] Refers to machines in which rotatable member, such as a liquid reservoir or a capping assembly, has one or more operating devices, such as filling nozzles or capping elements, and in which means is provided for moving the bottles &c. in company with the devices through a part of their circular path. The invention provides an endless-chain or other flexible conveyer for the bottles &c. which is arranged in driving engagement with the rotatable member for transmitting the drive from one to the other. The chain conveyer 22, which forms the subject-matter of Specification 505,133, [Group XXX], and comprises bottle-supporting plates 24 secured to each alternate link, is driven by an electric motor 96 and engages and drives scalloped feed wheels 23, 42, a filling assembly 13, a capping assembly 46 and an idler 92, the engagement being effected by pins 90 projecting from the driven members into the chain links. Those links which do not carry plates 24 are received in grooves 89 in the members 23, 42, &c. The invention is shown applied to a machine in which the bottles are not raised to the filling or capping heads, but may be applied to machines having vertically reciprocating bottle pedestals, in which case the conveyer chain drives the rotary support for the pedestals. Instead of constituting the platform on which the bottles are supported during filling and/or capping operations, the conveyer may constitute only a driving connection for an otherwise independent platform.
