532,686. Nitro-olefines. FRANKLIN, R. G., WILKINS, F. J., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 25,1939, No. 21570. [Class 2 (iii)] Nitro-olefines are made by treating aliphatic hydrocarbons having conjugated double bonds with liquid or gaseous nitrogen di-oxide. The reaction may be effected in the presence of an inert liquid or gaseous diluent. Examples are given of the treatment of butadiene ; the chief product appears to be 1:4-dinitro-#-butylene.
