Abstract

The organic persulpho-compounds, described in the parent Specification as prepared by the reaction of organic sulphochlorides with peroxides, such as hydrogen peroxide, in the presence of organic solvents and substantial absence of water, are now prepared by treating sulpho-compounds other than sulphochlorides with peroxides, the presence of organic solvents and absence of water not being essential, but good cooling and/or stabilizers must be employed. The free sulphonic acid may be reacted with a metal peroxide, or compounds of the type R-SO2-O-X, where X is hydrogen or a metallic, ammonium or like salt-forming radical, may be reacted with hydrogen peroxide, or a peroxide may be reacted with a compound of the type R-SO2-O-O-SO2-R<1>, where R and R<1> are the same or different organic radicals. In the examples, (1) naphthalene-sulphonic acid is treated, while cooling and in the presence of sodium pyrophosphate, with both sodium and hydrogen peroxides. (2) Naphthalene disulphoacid is treated with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of sodium pyrophosphate. (3) Diisopropyl - b -naphthalene-sulpho-acid - peroxide is treated with sodium peroxide in the presence of sodium pyrophosphate, with cooling.
