Abstract

Bipyridyls are produced by treating a metalpyridine interaction product with an organic nitro compound. The organic nitro compound may be an aromatic nitro compound used in proportions sufficient to provide at least 0.5 molecular equivalents per equivalent of metal in the interaction product. The interaction product may be derived from an alkali metal or magnesium, with pyridine itself, or hydrocarbon substituted pyridines. Specification 956,854 is referred to.
