Abstract

531,209. Spinning-mules. WOOL INDUSTRIES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION, and WRIGHT, R. W. July 14, 1939, No. 20493. [Class 120 (ii)] A spinning mule has a continuously variable speed gear incorporated in the drive from the feed rollers to the tin roller. As shown, a conical pulley 8 is fixed to an extension 9 of the shaft of one of the feed rollers 10 and is coupled by a belt 7 with an oppositely arranged conical pulley 5 free to revolve on a shaft 6 and carrying a pinion 4 gearing with a spur wheel 1 on the shaft of the tin roller. The shaft 6 is carried in an angle lever 11 pivoted coaxially with the tin roller in a block 12 and loaded by a spring 14 which maintains the belt 7 taut. The belt is guided and adjusted along the pulley by a fork 15 actuated by a screw 16 mounted in a bracket 18 and operated by a handwheel 17.
