A key 2 is contained within a [Class 39 (ii)] compartment A on the inside or outside of a torch casing B and is carried by a slide 4 operated by means of a resiliently-mounted button 5 to an outward position in which the key projects for use and is illuminated by the lamp. The key is held by the button 5 engaging the ring hole in the key handle. Walls A, A<SP>1</SP> guide the key, and a contact strip 6 is operated by the slide 4. Where the key is contained on the outside of the torch casing it may be located in a slide by two pegs and a clamping nut engaging an adjustably-mounted boss passing through the hole in the key handle. A number of keys may be contained in a compartment to the side of the battery compartment each being carried and positioned in its own slide and having the edge of its handle projecting from the compartment for easy selection. Each key when operated, displaces a common contact strip. The flexible contact member may have its contact in the form of a cross-piece co-operating with a rotatable contact which may be actuated to render the automatic switching inoperative. In one form the key is carried by a clip hinged to the front and swung outwardly when required, while a further modification is described in which the key swivels on a projection on the casing near the front and is held by a screw.
