Abstract

465,186. Electric battery lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and MAYES, F. C. Oct. 14, 1935, No. 28319. [Class 39 (ii)] In an electric-battery lamp or torch of the kind wherein the casing is provided with a slidable sleeve which is moved to depress a switch - operating button, the sleeve is adapted in one position to depress the button tc close the switch, and in another position to en. gage the button and lock it to prevent de. pression thereof. Ir the example, a slidable sleeve 1 on the torch casing 10 is provided with an internal groove 2 which, at one end, is provided with an aperture 3 through which the switch operating button 4 projects when in the off position. A part of the shank of the switch is reduced in cross-section and is adapted, by rotation of the sleeve 1, to engage an extension 19 of the aperture 3 to lock the switch button 4 in the off position. The sleeve 1 may be attached to the head carrying the reflector 16 and front lens, so that when the sleeve has been rotated for the button 4 to engage the groove 2, it may be moved longitudinally to vary the distribution of light from the bulb 9, the switch contact meanwhile being kept closed. The switch comprises a spring strip 7 secured to the inside of the casing 10 by rivets 11 and provided with an offset upper end adapted to engage a metal bulb socket 8 when the button 4 is depressed. In a modification, the aperture 3 is of uniform width and its edge is adapted to engage a slot in the side of the switch operating button. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 457,712.
