[Class 22] [Also in Group IV] A composition for conditioning friction surfaces, such as metal clutch plates and brake elements, comprises a mixture of molybdenum sulphide in a predominant amount and graphite in a minor amount. Silica and feldspar may also be added in minor amounts and a binder composed of boiled linseed oil, rosin and mineral oil containing a small amount of metal organic esters may be used. Other binders such as natural rosin mixed with tung oil, and phenolformaldehyde resins dissolved in a suitable solvent may be used. The composition is filled into recesses in the friction surface and heated therein to condition it.
