Abstract

529,508. Coating-metals. SNOW, C. I., PIERCE, I. T., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 12, 1939, No. 11107. [Class 82 (ii)] Metal parts having bearing surfaces which in use are subjected to high pressures creating boundary conditions of lubrication are modified, prior to assembly, by treating the bearing surfaces at an elevated temperature, e.g., 100- 300‹C. with a chlorine or sulphur containing extreme pressure lubricant base such as chlorinated paraffin wax, sulphurized lard oil or sulphurized castor oil. The parts, especially those of ferrous metal, are immersed in a solution of the lubricant base in oil.
