Abstract

A lubricant comprises a lubricating oil having dispersed therein both a small proportion of an organic compound of nickel, e.g. a nickel soap such as nickel oleate, and a small proportion of an organic compound of chromium, e.g. chromium oleate, with or without one or more other sludge-preventing compounds, e.g. organic compounds of tin or lead. Specifications 423,441, 431,066, and 455,096 are referred to. The Provisional Specification describes also a lubricant comprising a lubricating oil to which is added an organic compound of nickel and one or more other sludge-preventing substances, e.g. organic compounds of tin or lead.
