Abstract
529,387. Centrifugal separators. MARSTON, 'C. C. May 16, 1939, No. 14586. [Class 23] In cyclone separators for removing dust from gases or for grading granular materials a supplemental gas stream is introduced into the receiving chamber for the dust suspension, to assist in controlling the main stream of dustladen air. The arrangement is used. particularly with separators of the type described in Specification 512,886 and is shown applied to them. The separators 1 have dust collectors 2, clean gas outlets 3 with adjustable sleeves 12 and butterfly valves 4, and the first separator A has an inlet pipe 6. The other separators have each an inlet orifice which receives dust-laden gas from the outlet orifice of the previous separator. The connection between separators is controlled by a slide 10. The supplemental stream, which may be air or dust-laden gas for treatment is introduced through the pipe 5a and may assist or oppose the swirling action of the main stream so as to vary the proportion of light particles passing to the outlet 3. The inlet 6 and the supplementary inlet 5a may be valve controlled.
