527,226. Filtering gases. POELMAN, A., and SCHNEIDER, R. April 4, 1939, No. 10490. Convention date, April 5, 1938. [Class 8 (ii)] A filter e.g. for toxic gases comprises a series of pleats formed from a sheet of paper with ridges a extending radially, the outer ends of the pleats being luted as at 8 to a curved surface formed by or carried in the container ; the hollow axis 3 is closed at the ends by metal plates, and the filter may be combined with a charcoal filter 10. The luting of pitch &c. may be applied evenly by rotating the container, to which a cap 17, Fig. 4, is applied, the filter being then pressed into position by a mandrel 24 pushed down by a handle 20 against spring pressure. The filter may be helical and the container cylindrical, or of elliptic section.
