Abstract
526,507. Condensation vacuum pumps. BANCROFT, F. E., MILLER, C. W., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. March 18, 1939, No. 8681. [Class 71] In a condensation vacuum pump for operation with a liquid having a vapour pressure considerably lower than that of mercury, the vapour reception space between the let and the forevacuum pipe, in the case of a single let pump, or between the lowermost jet 6 and the fore-vacuum pipe 10, in the case of a multi-jet pump, as shown, is restricted by a baffle 12 between the hot vapour uptake pipe 3 and the condenser surface 8. The baffle 12 and the pins 15 or other means supporting it may be of a material of relatively low thermal conductivity, and its end 14 may be flared and extend below the fore-vacuum pipe 10. The pump may have a liner 11, as described in Specification 523,688, the entry mouth 16 of the liner having an increased flare. The invention may be applied to the pump described in Specification 346,293. in which case the baffles which are secured to the uptake pipe below the fore-vacuum pipe may be omitted.
