Abstract
525,869. Superheterodyne circuits for wireless reception. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. May 24, 1939, No. 15477. Convention date, May 27, 1938. [Class 40 (v)] Selectivity control, equivalent to a variation in coupling between the tuned circuits 2, 3 of an intermediate-frequency band-pass filter, is effected by connecting a circuit 7 tuned to the intermediate frequency in series with the capacity or inductance of the second circuit 3, the circuit 7 being also in the circuit of at least one of the control grids of the mixing tube 10, e.g. in the cathode lead as shown, and applying a varying potential over lead 27 to one of the control grids, e.g. the signal grid 14. The feed-back produced by circuit 7 may be positive or negative but is preferably positive and in this case the control voltage must become more negative with an increase in intensity of the desired signal or a decrease in intensity of an adjacent disturbing frequency. The impedance of circuit 7 may be low so that one side of the oscillator condenser 20 may be grounded without the cathode being at a high-frequency potential and any feed-back between the local oscillator and the signal grid 14 is prevented.
