Abstract
525,867. Spikes. ELASTIC RAIL SPIKE CO., Ltd. April 14, 1939, Nos. 11405 and 11406. Convention dates, April 16, 1938, and April 10, 1939. [Class 89 (ii)] A resilient rail spike, which may be made up of strips or laminations of spring steel, is made with a head part B coiled into a loop terminating in an arm C which in use bears resiliently on the rail flange. When made up of a pair of strips, the strip which is uppermost in the loop part may terminate at the top thereof. The strips may be splayed towards the upper end and may be held close together by being driven into the sleeper. When made solid the spike may be reduced in section toward the rail gripping end. In the construction of a solid spike such as is shown in Fig. 6, a square section metal bar is shaped correspondingly to the sections shown in Figs. 9 and 10, which are taken at right angles to one another. In the construction shown in Fig. 11 a pair of coiled gripping arms 9b are provided, a member 12 shaped as shown being used for driving home the spike.
