Abstract
683,961. Securing railway rails. ELASTIC RAIL SPIKE CO., Ltd., and THOMPSON, H.E. Dec. 12, 1950. [Dec. 30, 1949; Feb. 6, 1950] Nos. 33434/49 and 3017/50. Class 104 (ii), In a means for securing a railway rail to a rail foundation by exerting a downward thrust on a resilient clip of which one end bears on the rail and the other end on the rail foundation the clip. is located between a pair of projections provided on the rail foundation and formed with perforations for supporting a pin imparting the downward thrust to the clip. The clip 4 arranged between arms 3b of two angle brackets 3 is pressed downwards by an oval portion 6a of a pin 6 when the pin is partially rotated. The pin 6 has also two cylindrical portions 6b about which it is rotated when in position within oval openings 5 formed in the arms 3b, a head portion 6c to prevent the pin (i passing though the openings 5 and a radial projection 6d at the other end to prevent withdrawal of the pin 6 from holes 5 when the major axis of the oval portion 6a is vertical. The pin is rotated by inserting the end of a bar into a slit 6c intermediate its ends. The two angle brackets 3 may be replaced by a U-shaped member Fig. 6 (not shown). The arrangement may comprise a clip 4 on each side of the rail, as shown in Fig. 2, or one such clip as in Fig. 7, (not shown), arms of the opposite bracket, being then provided with recess to engage the rail foot. Cylindrical pin, Fig. 9, (not shown) tapered at one end may be used in place of the pin 6 shown in Fig. 2. According to the Provisional Specification the rail may be held in position by forcing the clip under a bar welded to the top edges of arms 3b until it abuts a stop bar 7 welded to the rear edges of arms 3b. The clips may be formed from single or laminated strip and the apparatus may be used with steel or wooden sleepers arranged transverse to or in the direction of the rails.
