[Class 37] [Also in Group XXXVII] A metal rectifier has a thermal cut-out in thermally-conductive relation with an element so as to break the circuit through the rectifier on overheating. In the example, Fig. 2, the circuit of the rectifier is completed through a spring C held on an insulating block. the free end being retained in the teeth of a wheel W, on a spindle prevented from rotating by alloy M in a fixed cup Z mounted on a rectifier plate P. On overheating, the alloy fuses and the contact C springs clear of the wheel W. On cooling, the spring may be manually reset in the teeth of the wheel. In Fig. 3, a dished bimetallic disc D is mounted on an insulating sleeve H on a spindle between two plates D1, D2 of the rectifier. Normally, the disc makes contact between a metal washer X, on plate D2, and plate D1. On overheating, the disc snaps over to the position shown in dotted lines and breaks the circuit. On cooling, the circuit is remade automatically.
