Abstract
525,139. Railway vehicle undercarriages. MICHELIN & CIE. Feb. 14, 1939, No. 4890. Convention date, April 15, 1938. [Class 103 (vi)] In a rail vehicle fitted with pneumatic-tyred wheels, the wheels or axles are mounted in the bogie frame or vehicle underframe by means of resilient members, such as rubber sleeves, which permit only a limited vertical displacement between the axles or wheels and the frame so that if any tyre should become deflated, it will not be pressed into contact with the rail, but will have its load transferred to the remaining wheels. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the ends of each axle are secured to inner rings 4, between each of which and an outer ring 7 is disposed an annular block of rubber 6, the outer ring 7 being provided with flanges 9 for securing it to the bogie frame. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 6, the axle is engaged in a bearing 13 at the centre of a bracket 14, which is provided at each end with a rubber sleeve 17 and inner ring 16 to receive horizontal pins 19 at the lower ends of brackets 18 depending from the frame 1. Where bogies are employed, the vehicle body is preferably mounted thereon by means of interposed springs. Specification 374,412 is referred to.
