Abstract

524,947. Seats. HILL, P. Feb. 10, 1939, Nos. 4470, 5170 and 17786. [Class 52 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A vehicle seat having an angle-iron frame 10, Fig. 2, and connected to an angle - iron base frame 11 by parallel links 22, 23, adjusted upwards and rearwards by a lever 37 having a cam edge 38 engaging a cross plate 18 of the seat frame, the lever being actuated through a plunger rod 41 to which thrust is imparted from a screw 46 through balls &c. 48 or a fluid medium in a tube 44 pivoted in lugs 43 on another cross plate 19 of the seat frame. The links 22 when upright may engage a stop 49 and the lever 37 may rest on a stop 50 when lowered. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4 the lever 37 is slotted over its pivot 36 andthe initial thrust engages an inclined edge 51 of the lever with an edge of the plate 18 to give an initial lift to the seat before the lever turns. In another arrangement, Fig. 5, the plunger rod 41 is pivoted to a sliding wedge block 54 engaging a block 53 on the seat frame, a base plate 33 having a stop 56. The seat frames may be notched to fit over the base pivots of the links so that the seat frames may fall flush with the base frames. A hydraulic plunger 41, Fig. 8, in the vertical limb of a rightangled tube 63, 65 carried by the seat may be employed.
