Abstract

524,916. Drench syringes. WATSON, A. V., and COOPER-STEWART ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. May 1, 1939, No. 12969. [Class 102 (i)] A drenching syringe for veterinary use comprises a cylinder a with its ends detachably engaged in connected end covers b, b<SP>1</SP>, one cover b of which is integral with the fixed portion d of a pistol-grip handle having a movable portion d<SP>1</SP> with a forked extremity connected to a crosshead p which is secured to a piston rod h projecting through the other cover b<SP>1</SP>. The covers b, b<SP>1</SP> are connected by a pair of side members c, the cylinder a is held in position by a removable screw plug e, and washer plates f, f<SP>1</SP> are arranged between the ends of the cylinder and the cover b and plug e. The delivery valve comprises a perforated disc h enclosed in a rubber moulding i the convex lip i<SP>3</SP> of which normally overlaps the holes h<SP>1</SP> in the disc. A similar valve l is mounted on a rubber moulding bucket-piston m which is secured by a screw k<SP>1</SP> to the end of the hollow piston rod k. The latter is formed with two slots k<SP>3</SP>, and is coupled to a flexible supply pipe n by a sleeve o formed with the crosshead p. A bent wire r is bowed over the sleeve o, coiled at r<SP>1</SP> around trunnions p<SP>1</SP> on the crosshead p, and formed into loops r<SP>2</SP> to spring over pegs q on the movable handle portion d<SP>1</SP>. The latter is slotted at t to engage a screwed rod u, and its stroke is adjusted by means of stop nuts x, x<SP>1</SP>, the return stroke being produced automatically by a bent wire spring y<SP>1</SP> A mark on the extremity of the handle portion d<SP>1</SP> may co-operate with a scale on one of the side members c to serve as an indicator.
