Abstract

524,748. Supply systems for space discharge apparatus. NEOGRAPH, Ltd., and KNEPPER, F. Feb. 6, 1938, No. 3856. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] A moving sign effect is produced by a discharge tube A with intermediate electrodes E2 ... E9, which are connected in turn to a high tension supply by electromagnets S energized in sequence by a low tension current, thus avoiding extensive high current connections. A rotating contact B is arranged to ensure that each magnet is energized before the previous one is disconnected and, by a long contact S9, to hold the tube fully illuminated for a period. A contact S10 energizes a magnet whereby the high tension supply is interrupted to extinguish the tube before the contact S9 is quitted. Fig. 2 shows a suitable arrangement of a magnet and auxiliary electrode. An insulating shell 1 carries a terminal 7 connected to a spring controlled contact which is attached to engage the core 3 of the magnet when the latter is energized. The magnet coil is fixed in'the shell 1 and its core is connected to the electrode E.
