Abstract

524,698. Knitting. FOISTER & SONS, Ltd., A., and FOISTER, J. E. Feb. 3, 1939, No. 3643. [Class 74 (ii)] Interlock fabric is vertically striped as the result of the absence of needle wales from one or each web or face. In the form shown, the needle wale d which would normally be knitted of the fabric of one web 3 is omitted so that a stripe of the width of two wales and of the colour of the material of the other web 4 is obtained. At wale e, the needle wale is omitted to form a stripe of the colour of the material of the web 3. The corresponding needle wales in the two webs or faces can be omitted so that stripes of one material on one face are backed by stripes of the other material on the other face. The striping effects so formed may be combined with other patterns or fancy effects such as horizontal striping or tuck stitch effects. The fabric may be a 1 x 1 or broader rib formation. The fabric may be made on a flat or straight bar rib machine, or upon a circular machine, needles being omitted from the needle bed where it is desired to omit the needle wales in the fabric.
