Abstract

524,073. Automatic frequency control system. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., RUST, N. M., BRAILSFORD, J. D., OLIVER, A. L., and RAMSEY, J. F. Nov. 12, 1938, No. 6047/40. Divided out of 522,476 [Group XXXVI]. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] The oscillator frequency in a superheterodyne receiver is controlled by a potential variable condenser which may be of the kind described in Specifications 522,476 and 522,564, [both in Group XXXVI]. The control may be derived from a discriminator circuit and applied to a potential variable condenser connected across a part of the local oscillator tuning inductance, Fig. 2 (not shown). A polarizing voltage may be superinposed on the controlling voltage. The Figure shows the application to a remote controlled receiver in which a pair of contacts CO are provided and associated with the usually provided latching bar used with push-button tuning. The contacts CO are arranged to short circuit momentarily the potential condenser C to ensure that the polarizing voltage is always built up from zero to avoid hysteresis effect. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 501,238, [Group XL].
