Abstract

521,710. Electric control systems. KOLSTER-BRANDES, Ltd., and ARNOLD, J. Nov. 22, 1938, No. 33947. [Class 40 (i)] A wireless receiver is tuned by a motor which also adjusts an auxiliary tuned circuit having a frequency range different from that of the receiver and responding to a variable control frequency in that range to provide, when tuned, a voltage which controls a relay to stop the motor. The control frequency may be transmitted by wireless or over lines which may be the power supply lines, In one arrangement, Fig. 1 (not shown), the auxiliary circuit is tuned by a condenser ganged with the tuning condensers of the receiver, the control range being 50-100 k.c. and the receiver range 550-1,500 k.c. Transmission of a control frequency which does not correspond to the tuning position of the receiver releases a relay controlled by a thermionic valve or discharge-tube to start the motor which rotates the ganged condenser in one direction or the other under the control of reversing contacts operated by a rotary arm at the limits of the travel. When the auxiliary circuit is in tune, the relay operates to stop the motor. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, a control frequency transmitted by oscillator 23 beats with the frequency generated by a frequency changer 25 to produce a predetermined intermediate frequency when the circuits are in tune. The tuning device of the frequency changer is ganged to that of the wireless receiver 35. The motor 26 is controlled by relays 30, 31, 33 controlled by circuits 28, 29 tuned slightly above and below the predetermined intermediate frequency so that when they receive said frequency 30, 31 are both operated and operate 33 to disconnect the motor. When the control frequency is changed, the resultant change in intermediate frequency releases one or other of relays 30, 31 to release 33 and start the motor in a direction dependent on which of relays 30, 31 is released. The release of relay 33 also makes a holding circuit for whichever relay 30, 31 is operated.
