Abstract

523,672. Ventilators. GREENWOOD'S VENTILATING CO., Ltd., HUGHES, B. D., and FORD, E..L. Jan. 11, 1939, No. 924. [Class 137] A ventilating shaft 1 provided with a shutter 5 is made gastight by mounting the shutter on a spindle 4 passing through a sleeve 3 supported by a spider 2, a spring 7, bearing at one end against a collar 9 secured to the spindle, and at' the other end against the spider, maintaining a rubber sealing ring 6 on the shutter firmly on its seating. To open the shutter a handle 10 is pushed upwards and given a slight turn to cause a pin 11 to engage with a bayonet slot 12 on the sleeve 3. In a modification, Fig. 2, the shutter is forced into its open position by the spring 3 and closed by causing a pin 14 on the spindle 4 to bear against the lower end 17 of the sleeve 16 by giving the spindle a quarter turn. In another modification, Fig. 6, the shutter 5 is rockably mounted on the spindle 46 to ensure a gas-tight seal.
