Abstract

523,113. Tables. JACKSON L. MELLERSH-. (Ferguson Bros. Manufacturing Co.). Dec. 23, 1938, No. 37432. [Class 52 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] A folding table or like article of furniture of the kind having hinged legs held in folded or extended positions by fastenings comprises U- shaped brackets 12 on the frame on which are hinged at 18 U-shaped head-pieces 8 firmly secured to the legs. The fastening consists of a spring-controlled pin 20 in slots 22 on the headpiece adapted to engage yieldingly recesses 30 on the brackets 12 in the folded position and non-yieldingly, deeper recesses 23 in the extended position. A bent metal finger-piece 19 is attached to the pin and rests on lugs 29 bent from the head-pieces 8 under the action of a tail-piece 26 on the spring. By pressing the end of the finger piece the pin is released from the recess 23 to fold the legs. The brackets 12 are held between a plate 15 and a right angled bracket 16 and these are slotted for the ends of the fastening pin. The table frame is preferably of wood recessed at 5 for'the top and at 7 for a flexible covering. The guide slots 22 are inclined so that the pin engages the recesses 23 with a wedging action.
