Abstract

522,827. Coated paper. CHAMPION PAPER & FIBRE CO. Jan. 10, 1939, No. 772. Convention date, Jan. 26, 1938. [Class 96] In making paper, suitable for printing with gloss ink and having a coated surface prepared as described in Specification 331,578, [CLass 96], the coating-material contains adhesive in excess of that required to bind the filler and sufficient to make the coating non-absorbent to oil printing- ink. More than 30 per cent. of the coating-material consists of adhesive. As adhesive may be used casein, shellac, starch &c. and as filler, calcium carbonate, 'clay, limestone, blanc fixe, titanium oxide, lithopone, zinc oxide, zinc sulphide, together with pigments or dyes. Thermoplastic gums or resins may be used, and casting facilitated by ammonium stearate. In an example the coating consists of 78 per cent. shellac, 4 per cent. sulphonated castor oil, and 18 per cent. dye in aqueous ammonia dispersion.
