687,262. Mineral coated paper. CONSOLIDATED WATER POWER & PAPER CO. May 13, 1947. [June 23, 1939] No. 12879/47. Class 96. A coating composition for printing paper, which may be applied at speeds of 700 to 1,000 ft. per min. during paper manufacture, has a solids content of 45 to 60 per cent. and a modified starch content of 100 to 150 parts, based on 970 of mineral pigment, e.g. of clay, calcium carbonate or sulphate, barium sulphite, titanium dioxide, zinc sulphide or oxide, satin white, or alumium hydrate. Deflocculating or dispersing agents, e.g. sodium silicate, di- or tri-sodium phosphate, or tetra-sodium pyrophosphate with soda or a soap, e.g. ammonium stearate may be used, and sulphated fatty alcohols, or sulphonated castor oil may be included. The starch may be chlorinated or enzyme-modified, &c. Casein, locust bean gum. alginates, methyl or ethyl cellulose, resins, and borax may control mobility.
