Abstract

403,852. Coated paper. CHAMPION COATED PAPER CO., 601, North B Street, Hamilton, Ohio, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Bradner, D. B. ; 20, University Avenue, Oxford, Ohio, U.S.A.) April 21, 1933, No. 11670. Convention date, May 14, 1932. [Class 96.] To the surface of dry or partly dried paper, postcard, cardboard &c. is applied, e.g. by rollers, or a bath, and filler comprising mineral matter and an adhesive, and the excess scraped off, or blown off by air, leaving the filler only in the minute surface depressions of the paper, e.g. 0.3 to 1.0 lbs. of filler &c. may be left on 1000 square feet of paper surface. The paper may be made from soda and sulphite pulp with clay, rosin size, and alum. The mineral surface filler may comprise 100 parts of dry clay or finely divided calcium carbonate, 70 parts of a 20 per cent casein solution and water to give a solid content of 44 per cent; or 68 parts of calcium carbonate, 12 parts of satin white in water, and 90 parts of a 22 per cent starch solution. The paper may be dried and calendered after treatment.
