Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce lightweight coated paper for printing, excellent in print gloss, ink setting and opacity of blank and printed paper in spite of a small quantity coated by coating base paper with a specific quantity of a specific coating composition. CONSTITUTION: This lightweight coated paper is produced by coating the both side of base paper with 2-10 g/m<2> (1-5 g/m<2> on each side) coating agent consisting of (A) 70-30 pts.wt. pigment (e.g. china clay or the like) having 1.0-3.5 μm average particle diameter and the 10-50% portion of which passes through 1 μm mesh size and 70-30 pts.wt. pigment having >=50 ml/100 g oil absorption, and (B) 3-20 pts.wt. (preferably 5-15 pts.wt.) PVA.
