Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a coated paper having a good dimensional stability, resistance to pick and linking, excellent in ink-absorbing properties, and suitable for printing by a rotogravure method by coating a specific amount of a pigment containing water-swellable smectite clay. CONSTITUTION: The objective coated paper is obtained by coating (B) an aqueous suspension containing <=20 wt.% of a pigment consisting essentially of water-swellable smectite clay on the surface of (A) a cellulose sheet material. The amount of the component B is that sufficient to provide <5 g/m<2> (preferably 1 g/m<2> ) coating weight on the component A. Preferably, the pigment of the component B contains >=80% smectite clay, and further a starch or a latex is used as (C) an adhesive.
