Abstract

522,569. Speed governors. C. A. V., Ltd., and NICOLLS, W. E. W. Dec. 9, 1938, No. 35942 [Class 57] In a regulating-device for a fuel-injection pump comprising a controlling-member movable into maximum-fuel position by a spring, and movable into minimum-fuel and no-fuel positions by a displaceable member responsive to fluid-pressure, and a centrifugal governor respectively, the governor is arranged to move the controlling-member independently of the displaceable member, the arrangement enabling a lightly constructed governor to be employed. In the device shown in the Figure, a sliding rod a for controlling the output of the fuel-pump b is urged by a spring e into maximum-fuel position determined by an adjustable stop f. The rod e is pivoted to a link j having ears m supporting a sliding rod k which is provided with a nut n for engaging one of the ears, and is connected to a diaphragm h responsive to the vacuum in a chamber i which communicates with a controllable constriction in the airsupply. In the minimum-fuel position of the rod a the diaphragm moves into contact with a plunger y loaded by a spring z which is stiffer than the spring e. A centrifugal governor p on the pump-shaft q comprises an axiallymovable member u which engages a lever s having a finger w for engaging an adjustable stop x on another lever r which is pivotally connected to the link j. When the governor becomes effective the link j moves the rod a into the no-fuel position, but the rod k and the diaphragm are not displaced, the governor being thereby relieved from moving the diaphragm and compressing the spring z. The link j can be operated under control of the driver by means comprising a lever 2.
