Abstract

1276797 Fuel injection pumps GENERAL MOTORS CORP 16 July 1970 [28 July 1969] 34516/70 Heading F1A The delivery of a fuel injection pump is controlled by the co-operation between spill ports 25, 26 and upper and lower edges of a groove 9 in the pump plunger 10, which edges are of two ports 42, 43 and 44, 45 of differing inclination, the plunger being rotatable by a rack 2 movable by an engine speed responsive governor 6 operative only when the maximum fall load speed is exceeded. Thus up to maximum full load speed, the pre-loading of a spring 36 is effective to prevent bob-weights 34 from axially moving a shaft 5, connected by a lever 3 to the rack 2. Above the said speed the spring 36 compresses and moves the rack to the right to decrease the delivery. Initially the delivery is set by manual counterclockwise movement of the lever 3 about a pivot 4 to increase delivery. The ports 25, 26 communicate with an annular fuel chamber 19 having an inlet connection 23.
