Abstract

521,813. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and BLACK, T. C. Nov. 25, 1938, No. 34353. [Class 39 (i)] The filamentary cathode of an electron discharge device is kept in tension by means of a cantilever spring attached to a metal arm extending from a point on the electrode spacing insulator adjacent to the free end of the cantilever spring. In the form shown, the filament is carried on a hook K secured to a cantilever plate spring P. This spring is connected to a bent metal arm M which is itself connected to a disc Q on a bush or rivet L fixed in a central aperture in the insulator F. The cylindrical anode A is constructed in two channel sections each with flanges B and grooves D at the edges to take rods E. The insulator F of lavite or similar material rests on the ends of the flanges B and carries collars G which may be welded to the rods E. Four metal struts C have a V-section and are flattened where they are welded to the flanges B. The struts diverge below the anode and are secured to a metal band clamped round the stem in the usual manner.
