[Class 124] In an electrically actuated hammer comprising an electric motor, reducing gear 2, 3, a crankshaft, and a connecting rod 7 for driving a striking piston 9, the crankshaft is supported in bearings 5, 6 located on both sides of the axis of the connecting rod and spaced apart sufficiently to accommodate between them, or between the toothed wheel 2 driving the crankshaft and the opposite bearing, a spring 8 for transmitting force to the piston. The piston may be hollow at the top to receive the spring, and it also may be accommodated between the bearings. The axis 1 of the motor may be laterally displaced relative to the axis of the hammer, and the crankshaft may be in two parts 4a, 4b provided with means to prevent relative rotation. In a modification, the piston is driven by the crankshaft by means of a crankslot.
