Abstract
520,892. Discharging ashes from furnaces. MITCHELL, F. G. Nov. 2, 1938, No. 31749. [Class 51 (i)] An ash extractor for boiler furnaces consists of an inclined rotatable drum 30 apertured at both ends and containing water into which the discharge end 36 of an ash-hopper 37 dips and having perforated vanes 35 secured within to raise the ashes delivered from the ash hopper up to the inlet 40 of a discharge chute 38. Preferably this chute is supported by the ash-hopper and itself supports on a bracket 47 one or more rollers 48 bearing against the lower side of the drum and pairs of flanged driving rollers 50, 51 frictionally engaging and supporting the drum. Two limbs 41, 42 to the chute controlled by swing-gates 45, 46 may be provided. Two drums alternatively operable by a single source of power may also be provided on either side of an ash hopper having swing gate or other valve means to discharge ash into one or other of the drums.
