Abstract
520,686.. Dividing dough &c. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Sept. 29, 1938, No. 28309. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1937. [Class 87 (ii)] A machine for dividing dough and other plastic material comprises a rotary member 2 having measuring-pockets 6 provided with pistons 7 which are moved inwardly under the pressure of the material to fill the pockets and are moved outwardly to discharge the material, the inward movement being cushioned by providing a yielding cam-member 14 adapted to be engaged by a cam-follower 9 on each piston rod 8 and cushioned by a spring 48 towards the end of its inward stroke. The cammember 14 slides within a guide block 18 mounted on a fixed cam disc 3 and moves inwardly to an adjustable limiting position with its outer face 14x coinciding with a curved surface on a cam-member 25, 23. The cammembers 25, 23 are pivotally mounted and'their positions adjusted by a screw 34 to determine the limiting position of the cam 14 and pistons 7. The cam 14 is provided with a pivoted strut 17 which is engaged by the spring 48 and forced against an extension 22 of the cam 25, the cam 14 being gradually brought'to rest with the strut 17 engaged with a curved end 21 of the extension 22. The follower 9 rides along the cams 14, 25, 23 to move the piston 7 outwards and discharge the material. The piston-rods 8 are connected to pivoted levers 11 which engage adjusting screws 13 to limit outward movement of the pistons. The cam 14 is returned to its outward position by a spring 29 connected through a slot to a headed stud 19 on the cam 14 and the return movement is cushioned by a spring-pressed arm 30. The cam disc 3 is adjustably fixed by screws 28 and can be rotatably adjusted to vary the cam setting. The rotary member 2 may be disposed horizontally about a vertical axis and there may be a number of inlets 4 and corresponding discharge positions disposed around it.
