520,544. Lenses. TAYLOR, TAYLOR, & HOBSON, Ltd., and WARMISHAM A. Oct. 25, 1938, No. 30830. [Class 97 (i)] In an objective comprising a dispersive component D2 between two collective components, the rear components having collective cemented surfaces R6, R7, and comprising a biconvex element D4 between two dispersive elements D3, D5, the refractive index of the element D4 is higher than those of the elements D3, D5, and the arithmetical sum of the radii of curvature R1, R8 of the first and last surfaces is not less than nine-tenths of the equivalent focal length of the objective. The front two components may each consist of a simple element, the sufraces R6, R7 may be strongly collective, the refractive index of the element D 4 may be greater than that of the dispersive component which may itself be greater than the indices of the elements D3, D5, the AbbÚ V number of at least one of the elements D3, D5 may be lower than that of the element D4, and the arithmetical sum of the radii of curvature of the surfaces R1, R4 may be greater than two-thirds of the equivalent focal length of the objective. The Specification contains data for an objective having a relative aperture of F 2À8.
