520,397. Remote control of machine guns and cameras on aircraft. KINDELBERGER, J. H. Oct. 20, 1938, No. 30397. [Classes 92 (ii) and 119] A machine gun and camera actuating - mechanism, particularly for use on aircraft, comprises power means for actuating the machine gun, power means for actuating the camera, and a single control for selectively operating the machine gun and camera. The machine gun 1, Fig. 1, may be actuated by compressed air supplied from an air bottle 2, compressed air being used also to close a switch 9 in an. electric circuit which includes the driving mechanism for the camera 6. A shut-off valve 4 is located in the air supply pipe 3 and a multi-way valve 12 is located in the cockpit or gunner's position for the remote control of the machine gun and camera. The plug-valve 12 is seated in a casing 11 under the pressure of a spring 16, Fig. 5, and thrust member 15 and is rotated by a hand-lever 13 into any one of four positions corresponding respectively to (1) the actuation of machine gun or camera, (2) actuation of machine gun alone, (3) actuation of camera alone, and (4) actuation of both machine gun and camera. These positions are indicated on a dial 10 by a pointer on the handle 13. The valve has two passages 33, 34 one of which communicates with a longitudinal passage 35 opening into the pipe 3<SP>1</SP> leading to the machine gun. The switch 9 for the camera circuit is closed by a contact 30 on a plunger 36 actuated when desired against spring pressure 37, by air pressure admitted to the space 28 by the valve 12. A vent 31 is provided in the valve casing to relieve pressure in the pipe 3<SP>1</SP> and from under the plunger 36 when the machine gun or camera are inoperative; such position of the valve being shown in Fig. 1.
