Abstract

520,169. Stoppers. UNIVERSAL RUBBER PAVIORS, Ltd., and GAISMAN, L. Oct. 14, 1938, No. 29750. [Class 125 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A rubber plug or stopper for closing the ends of cycle handle-bars, or for other purposes, is formed on its outer periphery with one or more ribs or projections, and with a groove or recess immediately adjacent to each rib or projection into which the rib or projection is wholly or partly displaced in one direction as the plug is pressed into position, whereby the plug is held firmly in position by the pressure or wedging action of the ribs &c. against the inner wall of the handle-bar &c. without the use of screw clamping or expanding devices. In one form, Fig. 2, the rubber plug has a cylindrical body a formed with two annular ribs c of saw - tooth cross - section and with adjacent annular grooves d of similar angular shape and extending inwardly from the surface of the cylindrical part a. When the plug is pressed into the handle-bar tube &c. the ribs c are pressed back and displaced into the grooves d. The ribs c tend to move outwards and wedge against the wall of the tube when an 'outward pull is exerted on the plug. In another form, Fig. 3, the plug g is formed'with a series of projecting studs h of angular cross-section, co-operating with adjacent angular recesses i, each stud and recess having a radial and an inclined wall. In another form, the plug is formed with both an annular rib and a series of longitudinal studs. The longitudinal studs may be inclined to the axis of the plug. The annular ribs may be discontinuous, or may be of helical form.
