Abstract
519,652. Door fastenings; locks. TVETEN, F. Sept. 27, 1938, No. 28092. Convention date, June 1, 1938. [Class 44] A door latch which is held retracted until the door is closed comprises a sectorshaped member 4 pivotally mounted on a handle spindle 3 and adapted to swing into engagement with a recess 11 under action of a spring 7. Spindle 3 has a pin 5 adapted, when the handle is rotated anti-clockwise, Fig. 2, to engage one end of a slot in the latch boss 12 to rotate the latch to the release position in which it is retained by a projection 13 on a blade spring 8 engaging under a shoulder 14 on the latch member. When the door is closed a fixed projection 9 passes through a slot 15 in the latch casing into engagement with spring 8 to withdraw projection 13, whereupon the latch moves into recess 11. Member 4 has a wedge-form nose 10 serving to press the door tightly on its seat to prevent rattle. The handle, not shown, may contain a lock serving to withdraw pin 5 to render the handle inoperative.
