[Class 28 (ii)] In a slicing-machine of the type comprising an inclined substance (e.g. meat) supporting trough which is provided with a substance holder or pusher and is adapted to be reciprocated across a rotary disc knife, the holder is slidably mounted on a longitudinal ledge of the trough, and when at the top end of the ledge is capable of being swung beneath the ledge into an inoperative position. A V-shaped trough 5 has one longitudinal edge bent outwards at right-angles to form a ledge 11, on which is slidably mounted a bracket 12 provided with a hinge pin 17 for a pivoted arm 19, which is apertured to form a hand-hold 21, Fig. 3, and carries a plate member 22. Fixed to the member 22 is a plate 23 forming the substance holder, which is provided with a set of teeth 24 and also with a set of pins or spikes projecting outwardly from the face of the plate 23, the latter set holding the meat firm when the holder rests on top of it (Fig. 3) while the set 24 are used to hold the side of a long length of sausage &c. by swinging the holder outwards about the pin 17. The upper end of the ledge 11 (Fig. 1) is extended beyond the trough, whereby the holder may be swung about the pin 17 to an inoperative position beneath the ledge, the trough being cut away or indented at the upper end to permit and guide this movement, while the plate 23 is cut to form an arcuate slot 33, Fig. 3, extending to an indent 34 which forms one side 35 of a projection 36 forming a stop co-operating with the side of the trough to limit the swinging movement.
