667,818. Slicing machines. LINGS, J. B. (Globe Slicing Machine Co., Inc.). Feb. 7, 1950, No. 3157/50. Class 28 (ii). The food support 54-66 of a gravity feed sliver has a movable side or wing 66 which can be tilted about a pivot 67 so that the food can be supported at an angle to the disc knife 4 and so is cut on the skew. A spring pressed pin 72 engages one or other of holes in the other wing 54 to hold it in its inclined or right angled position. The pin is released from engagement by a fingergrip projection 76 rotatable in a cam slot 77. A flange 69 on the wing 66 prevents the removal of 66 from 54 until it moves beyond a recess 79 (not shown). The pin 72 is located in a boss 71 formed on the back of the wing 66. The wing 66 has a lower thumb piece 70 so that the remaining fingers of the hand can engage the food to be cut so that they are high enough to keep clear of the knife. The gauge plate 6 is secured by bolt 35 to an arm 26 extending through an opening 25 in the cover casing. It has an elongated recess 37 to receive the projection 38 of the arm 26 to guide it and allow adjustment laterally relative to the arm 26. The food support or chute 54-66 is coupled to a hanger or undercarriage 7 reciprocated by hand along guide rods 29, 30. When a lever 51 is turned about two revolutions it causes the two portions of the extension 47 of the chute to act as jaws to grip a pin 46 on the hanger 7 so that the chute can be removably clamped on its undercarriage. The chute and its undercarriage is reciprocated by a handle 56. A food pusher 57 can be swung from underneath the chute to overlie the wing 54 by a handle 63 to bear on the food piece and urge it towards the knife.
