Abstract

518,672. Transmission systems. CACKETT, F. W. Aug. 2, 1938, No. 22870. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] Line distortion in alternating current signals is minimized by pre-distorting the signals with the aid of any suitable network having similar characteristics to the line in the negative feed-back path of a valve at the outgoing end or by providing in the negative feed-back path of a valve arranged anywhere in the line a network having similar distortion characteristics to the line and made in accordance with the principles described in Specifications 476,799, and 495,815, [Group XL]. To avoid instability the inductance L in the series arm of the network may be shunted by a resistance S1 and the capacity C of the shunt arm may have a resistance S2 in series with it. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, a valve 8 connected in a cathode-follower circuit and fed by a signalsource 7 is employed for pre-distorting the signals. The feed-back path may include an amplifier in addition to the network 6. Specifications 330,642, [Class 40 (iv)], 371,887, [Group XL], and 391,211 also are referred to.
