Abstract

517,548. Fortifications; portable huts. BELLMAN, N. S. July 29, 1938, Nos. 22630 and 37305. [Class 20 (i)] A dome-shaped hut or shelter comprises curved side sections b joined together at their edges by overlapping joints, a curved roof portion formed of sections a joined together and adapted to overlap the upper-ends of the wall sections, and a floor formed of segments c with overlapping joints and upturned edges c' for joining to the lower edges of the wall sections. Some of the wall sections are provided with doors d and the roof sections are provided with ventilation pipes e'. The domed form of shelter may be divided in halves, each half constituting the end of an elongated shelter with intermediate portions each comprising a curved roof and wall sections and a flat floor section. For a fortification the domed roof may be rotatably mounted and provided with apertures for the passage of gun barrels. In a modification, Fig. 6, the outer shell may be provided with vertically disposed ribs l to which is attached an inside lining i formed of overlapping plates, the spaces between the spaces between the linings being filled with concrete, gravel or the like. The plates used in the construction of shelter may be corrugated. Specification 504,642 is referred to.
